Baking Contest

Think you’ve got the tastiest treats in town? Bring your best baked goods to the Stateline Heritage Days Baking Contest and let your culinary skills shine! Whether it’s cookies, cakes, pies, or pastries, all entries are welcome. A panel of judges will sample the sweet (and savory) creations and select the top three entries, as well as crown one grand prize winner who rises above the rest.

This event is a celebration of homemade goodness and hometown talent. So dust off your recipe cards, preheat those ovens, and prepare to impress! Whether you’re entering or just stopping by to see (and smell) the delicious competition, the Baking Contest is sure to delight.

Official Rules

 

Entry & Prizes

  • There is no cost to enter this contest.
  • Prizes are as follows:
    1st Place: $100
    2nd Place: $50
    3rd Place: $25

Registration & Check-In

  • All contestants must register before participating.
  • Contest registrations must be received no later than 30 minutes prior to the event start.
  • Registration forms are available online by clicking the button above or at Jo’s Corner Florist, 313 N. Columbia Street, Union City, Indiana.
  • Late entries may not be accepted once judging has started.
  • Tables will be provided for all entries.

Eligibility

  • Contestants may enter as individuals.
  • Contestants may provide as many entries as they would like.
  • Contestants must follow all State Line Heritage Days Committee General Rules and Regulations.

Contest Format

  • Baking categories are:
    • Pies
    • Cookies / Brownies
    • Cupcakes / Cakes
  • Cookies, brownies, and cupcakes must include a minimum of 6 items per entry.
  • Pies must be whole pies.
  • Cakes must be whole cakes.
  • A recipe should accompany each entry.
  • Contestants do not need to be present for judging.

Contest-Specific Rules

  • Each entry must be submitted in the appropriate category.
  • No names are to be placed on the entries.
  • A number will be assigned to each entry for judging.
  • Entries should be presented neatly and ready for judging.
  • Contestants are responsible for delivering their entries by the registration deadline.

Judging & Winner Determination

  • Winners will be determined by the judges.
  • Entries will be judged anonymously using the assigned entry numbers.
  • Judges’ decisions are final.
  • In the event of a tie, judges may re-evaluate the tied entries to determine final placement.
  • Contest officials may disqualify any entry that does not follow the rules.

Safety & Conduct

  • Contestants should prepare and handle all baked goods in a clean and safe manner.
  • Contestants must follow all instructions from contest officials.
  • Participants are expected to behave respectfully toward judges, volunteers, spectators, and other contestants.

Disqualification

  • Entries may be disqualified for including the contestant’s name on the entry.
  • Entries may be disqualified for failing to meet the required entry size.
  • Entries may be disqualified for being submitted after judging has started.
  • Tampering with entries, entry numbers, judging materials, or another contestant’s entry may result in disqualification.
  • Unsafe, unsportsmanlike, or disrespectful behavior may result in disqualification.

General Rules

  • All entries are subject to the State Line Heritage Days Committee General Rules and Regulations.
  • State Line Heritage Days reserves the right to clarify rules, adjust procedures, or make final decisions as needed for safety, fairness, or event operations.
  • Contest officials have final authority during the event.
